Bears WR Allen Robinson to report to training camp despite lack of contract extension

Chicago Bears star wide receiver Allen Robinson remains on the franchise tag he signed in March and reported to mandatory minicamp this week despite the lack of a contract extension that doesn't appear to be in his near future.

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Robinson told reporters Wednesday he plans to arrive for training camp in late July and is currently focusing on more than just his next payday.

"That’s not in my control," Robinson said of a potential extension. "That is what it is. I’m comfortable with that. Obviously, that’s a possibility. My main focus right now is to continue to get better. . . . I don’t have any updates. That’s out of my control."

Bears head coach Matt Nagy has repeatedly told anyone who will listen veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start ahead of rookie and first-round draft pick Justin Fields this September. Robinson has never caught passes from either during meaningful games, and it behooves all involved for him to get as familiar with those quarterbacks as possible ahead of what will essentially be a contract year for the 27-year-old one-time Pro Bowler.

Robinson tallied 102 catches for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns last season.
