Bengals, DE Sam Hubbard agree to four-year, $40 million extension

The Cincinnati Bengals have locked up edge rusher Sam Hubbard to a massive four-year, $40 million extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Hubbard is considered a foundational part of the Cincinnati defense. In three seasons with the Bengals, he has 16.5 sacks, eight pass breakups, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 177 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss and 33 quarterback hits.

The Bengals selected Hubbard out of Ohio State in the third round of the 2018 draft. Extending his contract was a major goal for Cincinnati this summer.

While Hubbard's deal is huge for the Bengals, he isn't even close to being one of the highest-paid defensive ends in the NFL. Joey Bosa ($27 million), Myles Garrett ($25 million) and Leonard Williams ($21 million) are the highest-paid DEs, according to Spotrac.

However, Hubbard is now the fourth highest-paid member of the Cincinnati defense, sitting behind Trey Hendrickson ($15 million), Trae Waynes ($14 million) and D.J. Reader ($13.25 million).
