Joe Burrow suffered what appeared to be a very painful injury during the Super Bowl on Sunday, and Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor has confirmed that it was fairly serious.

Taylor told reporters on Wednesday that Burrow was diagnosed with a sprained MCL after Cincinnati’s 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The injury was actually a re-aggravation of one Burrow suffered in December.

Taylor confirmed a report from Tuesday, which is that Burrow will not need surgery.

Burrow appeared to be in serious pain after he was sacked by Von Miller in the second half of Super Bowl LVI. He immediately clutched at his right knee before limping off the field. The star quarterback refused medical attention on the sideline and said after the game that there was no way he was coming out.

Burrow, who suffered a torn ACL in his other knee last year, was seen limping when he left the stadium.

The Bengals desperately need to improve their offensive line this offseason. Burrow was sacked seven times in the Super Bowl and a whopping 19 times in the postseason. Taylor noted on Wednesday that the unit was good enough to get the Bengals to the Super Bowl, but he acknowledged the team has to do a better job in that area.
