Bengals' Joe Burrow expected 'to reset' QB market

The Bengals have certainly found their franchise quarterback in Joe Burrow. And with one year left on his rookie deal, Cincinnati is gearing up to pay him. Will it be a record-setting payday?

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport believes it could very likely be.

"Talk about resetting the market, my guess is Burrow is that guy," Rapoport said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "His agent [Brian Ayrault] has negotiated some very good deals. He did the Joey Bosa deal which was massive."

Chargers LB Joey Bosa received a five-year, $135 million contract in 2020, making him the NFL's highest-paid defensive player at the time.

Now it's Burrow's turn to get paid. And after leading the Bengals to two straight AFC Championship games and one Super Bowl, he definitely has the resume to reset the market.

"He is a stickler and takes these things very, very seriously," Rapoport added. "My guess is he tries to reset it. And if anybody can do it, I would say Burrow could do it."

The highest paid quarterbacks in the league include Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and Patrick Mahomes. Their contracts range from $45-50.3 million per year, with Mahomes' deal notably stretching over 10 years.

Who's to say how long Burrow's contract will be, but it's very likely it will break Rodgers' $50.3 million per year.
