Bengals sign HC Zac Taylor to contract extension through 2026 season

After leading the Cincinnati Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1989, head coach Zac Taylor is getting handsomely rewarded.

Taylor's coaching career began in 2008 with Texas A&M as a graduate assistant, a role he held until 2011. Taylor then served as the Miami Dolphins assistant quarterbacks coach in 2012, before being promoted to the title of quarterbacks coach in 2013.

The 38-year-old stayed with the Dolphins through the 2015 season, before jumping back into the college game in 2016 with Cincinnati, when was the Bearcats offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. Taylor returned to the NFL in 2017 with the Rams as their assistant wide receivers coach, and was their quarterbacks coach in 2018.

Taylor just completed his third season at the helm of the Bengals. During his run, the team has gone 16-32-1 in the regular season, though over half of those wins came during the most recent campaign.

"Zac has come into the league and worked to develop the foundations for a winning program that can be successful over time," Bengals president Mike Brown said in a statement. "The fruits of Zac's efforts were seen this year, and Zac is well-regarded by our players and coaches. I know the effort and passion Zac brings to the building and to our team, and I am pleased by his approach. And I think the city of Cincinnati sees him the way the players and I do. He's brought excitement to the town and deserves credit and recognition for that."
