Bengals tight end C.J. Uzomah out for season with torn Achilles
One of Joe Burrow's most effective targets in the first two games of the 2020 campaign will be out for the remainder of the season.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor revealed Friday that tight end C.J. Uzomah suffered a torn Achilles in Thursday's 35-30 loss to the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Uzomah went down after he caught a five-yard pass from Burrow with a little more than eight minutes left in the game. He quickly removed his helmet and was carted off the field.
The 27-year-old was having a solid game before suffering the injury, reeling in four catches on six targets for 42 yards and one touchdown -- Burrow's first passing touchdown in the NFL.
Uzomah and Drew Sample came into the season as Cincinnati's top two tight ends after Tyler Eifert left in free agency to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With Uzomah out, the team's third-string tight end, Cethan Carter, likely will see more snaps, while Mason Schreck could be upgraded from the practice squad.
