Bills assistant athletic trainer earns one fifth-place NFL MVP vote

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was rightfully awarded his second NFL MVP on Thursday night. Mahomes dominated the voting, earning 490 points to second-place Jalen Hurts' 193.

Josh Allen (151 points), Joe Burrow (128) and Justin Jefferson (55) rounded out the top-five, while Nick Bosa (20), Trevor Lawrence (3) and Micah Parsons (2) made up the rest of the top-eight. There was an eight-way tie for ninth place (with all the contenders securing one fifth-place vote) and among them was Buffalo Bills assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington.

According to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, Kellington's fifth-place vote came from ESPN's Suzy Kolber. Kellington performed life-saving CPR to Bills safety Damar Hamlin during the team's Week 17 "Monday Night Football" game against the Cincinnati Bengals, after Hamlin suffered an on-field cardiac arrest.

Hamlin received the NFL's Alan Page Community Award earlier this week and was recognized at NFL Honors on Thursday night in Phoenix, Arizona. Super Bowl LVII between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles takes place Sunday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, about 20 minutes away.

Kellington was Syracuse University's head football trainer for six years starting in 2011, before joining the Bills in his current role in 2017.
