Bills' Dion Dawkins downplays Stefon Diggs controversy

Offensive tackle Dion Dawkins is the latest member of the Buffalo Bills to insist star wide receiver Stefon Diggs is fully dedicated to winning with the club ahead of training camp.

"I think it’s so funny how the world is so much more concerned than the actual teammates," Dawkins said about the much-discussed Diggs situation during a Wednesday appearance on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "We don’t care at all because there’s nothing to really be worried about...I think that the media has taken things so far left where there’s really — the only way to go [is] right. But we have been living on that right side since. And there’s no worries — at all. Zero worries."

Dawkins added Diggs and quarterback Josh Allen are "brothers, and they love each other."

Bills head coach Sean McDermott raised eyebrows last month when he initially said he was "very concerned" about Diggs' reported absence from the start of mandatory minicamp. McDermott quickly changed his tune and claimed he temporarily excused Diggs, and it was subsequently reported the 29-year-old and his coaches "needed to get on the same page on the direction of the offense."

Allen later said the media was responsible for blowing a non-story "so far out of proportion." On Wednesday, Dawkins danced around the issue when directly asked to explain what exactly happened regarding Diggs' involvement during minicamp.

"From top to bottom, a bunch of guys reported to (organized team activities), for mandatory minicamp and practiced," Dawkins said. "We practiced hard, we practiced well. We had a lot of conversations of what we’re going to do in the season. And we worked hard at it. It’s work. It is work. It’s fun. And it’s football. So the guys were in the same vicinity doing what we do. We joke, we have fun, we argue, we compete, and that’s just what we do."

Eventually, Diggs should publicly address the matter if he and others inside the locker room want to prevent it from becoming a distraction ahead of September. Until he does, teammates such as Dawkins will face questions throughout the summer about what did or didn't happen in June.
