The Buffalo Bills‘ offense has not been playing up to expectations, as it has failed to crack the 30-point mark in each of the last five games and registered just 18 points in a six-point loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend.

As a result, Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey has taken his fair share of criticism, but quarterback Josh Allen leapt to his defense this week.

“I think we have a very good rapport in terms of him knowing what I don’t like and what I like,” Allen said of Dorsey, via Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News. “Obviously, getting to familiar stuff that our guys like that we’ve ran a lot in the past, I think that’s something that any offense can benefit from running familiar concepts and trusting the guys out on the field. And it comes down to the guys executing it.”

Allen added that it shouldn’t matter what plays Dorsey calls; Buffalo should be able to execute them.

“He can call literally anything on his playbook,” he said. “He should be able to point at any given play and we should go out there and try to execute it and execute it to the best of our ability. And so, again, that comes down to the guys on the field. And, you know, we’ve got to be better for him.”

Allen went 26-for-38 with 258 yards, a touchdown and an interception while carrying the ball eight times for 44 yards and a score against the Bengals.

On the season overall, Josh Allen has thrown for 2,423 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions (which is tied for the league lead) while completing 71.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 99.6. He has also rushed for 233 yards and six scores.

The Bills’ offense actually does rank fifth in the NFL in yardage, but much of that came between Weeks 2 and 4 when the club racked up 123 points in three straight wins.

Buffalo is 5-4 and will take on the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
