Bills land fastest player in Combine history in latest mock draft

Many of the "experts" believe the Bills will get QB Josh Allen another weapon with their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. CBS Sports' Kyle Stackpole thinks it could be with the fastest player in Combine history.

Stackpole predicts Buffalo will select Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who ran the fastest 40-yard dash (4.21 seconds) in NFL Combine history on Saturday, with pick No. 28 in his latest mock draft.

"If you break the NFL Combine record in the 40-yard dash, you automatically go in the first round of my next mock draft," Stackpole writes. "The Bills add the Texas speedster to take the top off the defense and add more firepower for Josh Allen."

Worthy currently ranks as the 14th-best wide receiver and No. 66 overall prospect on Pro Football Focus' big board, but his performance at the NFL Scouting Combine certainly caught the attention of several front office staffs and he could sneak into the first round as a result.

The 20-year-old is more than just a speedster too. He led the Big 12 in receiving yards (2,755) and receiving touchdowns (26) over the past three seasons.

Adding another playmaker like Worthy in the draft is important for Buffalo to do this offseason because the team is heading into 2024 with $41M over the salary cap.

That makes it highly unlikely that the Bills will be able to re-sign pending free-agent wide receivers Gabriel Davis and Trent Sherfield.

The Bills still have wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Khalil Shakir and tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox under contract for next season. However, finding a true No. 2 wide receiver to pair with Diggs is a must with Davis likely heading elsewhere in free agency.

You can't teach speed and Worthy has it. He and Diggs could complement each other very well and help Buffalo's offense, which was sometimes painful to watch last season, get back on track in 2024.
