Bills RB Latavius Murray explains 'different element' he brings to backfield

The Buffalo Bills added veteran Latavius Murray to their RB room on Monday, signing him to a one-year deal. 

Murray, 33, is at the tail end of his career but still thinks he has something to offer a Super Bowl-contending team like the Bills. 

"I think it starts there. Bringing a different element to the backfield, to the running back room," Murray said, per Maddy Glab of the Bills' official website.

Buffalo's depth at RB beyond Murray includes Georgia standout James Cook, former New England Patriot Damien Harris and pass-catching back Nyheim Hines. Murray sees each RB bringing something different to the offense.

"You got James, you got Nyheim, you've got Damien, really all different, different in size even. I just think there is some versatility that I do have even with being bigger. But, what stands out first and foremost is my size and my speed at that size."

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Murray has made a living being a jack of all trades out of the backfield. Murray can be a bruising runner and bounce runs to the outside with good speed. He's a reliable pass-catcher and is an asset in pass protection. However, ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg believes Murray's style fits in best "as a bigger back" for "short-yardage situations."

Murray might be the Bills' second-oldest player (behind Von Miller) but he's coming off a productive season where he was the Denver Broncos' leading rusher with 703 yards in only 12 games of action. Murray ranks sixth among active players with 6,252 career rushing yards and fourth with 55 rushing touchdowns.

The Bills have a creative offensive coordinator in Ken Dorsey who will find ways to get Murray involved. GM Brandon Beane told Murray that he wouldn't draft a RB over the weekend if Murray signed with Buffalo. Beane was true to his word. Murray's now a Bill, and that shows the organization feels he can be one of many integral pieces who can help them on their quest to a Lombardi Trophy.
