Bills reportedly refused to let one team trade for Stefon Diggs
When the Buffalo Bills made receiver Stefon Diggs available in trade discussions, they were open to trading him to 30 of the league’s other 31 teams.
The one team that Buffalo outright refused to send Diggs to? According to Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk, that was the Kansas City Chiefs.
“From what I do know, he was allowed to seek a trade from anybody in the league, except the Kansas City Chiefs,” Simms said on “PFT Live” on Thursday. “That's what I've been told by multiple people. He was allowed to do that. The Chiefs were the only team they weren't going to trade [to].”
The Chiefs have eliminated the Bills from the postseason in three of the last four years — twice in the AFC divisional round and once in the AFC Championship game.
The Bills are 3-4 against the Chiefs since Josh Allen became their starting quarterback in 2018, but none of those wins have come in the playoffs. Diggs had a combined 12 receptions for 105 yards and zero touchdowns in those three playoff losses to KC.
It’s not known if the Chiefs even had an interest in acquiring Diggs, but the Bills clearly had zero desire to help them load up for their quest to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat as Super Bowl champions.
Receiver is an area of need for Kansas City heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, where the team is likely to add a wideout with a Day 1 or 2 pick. Last year’s leading receiver Rashee Rice is in hot water after allegedly fleeing the scene of a multi-vehicle wreck, and no other receiver on the roster had more than 27 receptions or 460 yards in 2023.
Buffalo was desperate to get rid of Diggs, selling low on the 30-year-old for only a 2025 second-round pick from the Houston Texans. It also parted with a 2024 sixth-rounder and 2025 fifth-rounder and absorbed $31 million in dead cap to do so.
