The Buffalo Bills' 2023 season isn't over yet, and it won't be for another few weeks if they have anything to say about it, but they've already begun making preparations for the 2024 season in the background.

On Saturday, the Bills added some potentially-high-reward depth on offense in former Denver Broncos receiver K.J. Hamler, per Field Yates.

Hamler, 24, came into the NFL as a second-round pick out of Penn State in 2020. The Pontiac, Michigan-native immediately showed some promise in his rookie season, catching 30 passes for 381 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.

After that, though, injuries began to really take their toll on Hamler. He only played three games in 2021 after tearing his ACL early in the season, then only appeared in seven games in 2022 due to a hamstring injury. Over those two seasons, Hamler had just 12 receptions for 239 yards.

The string of bad luck didn't stop there, as Hamler also suffered a partially-torn pectoral muscle in March of 2023. Then in July, he announced that he had been diagnosed with a rare condition known as pericarditis, which causes swelling and irritation in the membrane surrounding the heart. The Broncos then waived Hamler with a non-football illness designation.

Hamler then signed to the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad in September, but didn't appear in a game for them. With the Colts not giving him a futures contract after the regular season ended, Hamler became a free agent once more.

Now, the talented but oft-injured receiver will head to Buffalo next season with the hope of reviving his career.
