The Buffalo Bills have managed to clear a considerable amount of cap space over the last week, but they are still tight against the cap heading into free agency.

That means the Bills probably won’t be able to spend big on any significant free agents.

What Buffalo can do, however, is search the bargain bin for some low-cost options, and that’s why Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus sees running back Devin Singletary is a perfect fit for the club.

Singletary spent the 2023 campaign with Houston Texans, playing in every game and rushing for 898 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 4.2 yards per carry. He added 30 catches for 193 yards.

Of course, the 26-year-old spent the first four years of his career with the Bills.

Singletary, who played his collegiate football at Florida Atlantic, was selected by Buffalo in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, appearing in every contest and registering 775 yards and a couple of scores while logging a robust 5.1 yards per attempt. He also caught 29 passes for 194 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

Then, in his sophomore season, Singletary actually took a bit of a step back, finishing with 687 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground, recording 4.4 yards per tote.

He bounced back in 2021, posting 870 yards and seven scores as a rusher while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Plus, he hauled in 40 receptions for 228 yards and a touchdown.

In his final season with the Bills in 2022, Singletary tallied 819 yards and five touchdowns in the run game, once again averaging 4.6 yards per attempt. He also contributed 38 grabs for 280 yards and a score as a receiver out of the backfield.

Singletary wouldn’t be the featured back in Buffalo, as James Cook holds that title. However, he could represent a fine No. 2 back for the Bills and could further bolster an impressive Buffalo rushing offense that ranked seventh in the league this past season.
