Jay Trust of Boise news outlet KTVB reported Tuesday morning that Dirk Koetter will be returning to the Treasure Valley on a one-year deal.

Koetter is an Idaho native with a history as a Boise State football coach in various capacities. He was the Broncos' head coach from 1998 to 2000, where he had a record of 26-10, winning the Big West Conference twice.

He returned to Boise State in 2022 as an offensive analyst and interim offensive coordinator following the firing of Tim Plough.

In between those stints, Koetter spent time as the head coach at Arizona State and an OC in the NFL with Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta. Koetter was also the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016 to 2018.

Koetter would replace Bush Hamdan, who left Boise State after the 2023 season to accept the same position at the University of Kentucky.

Boise State are scheduled to begin spring practice on Monday, March 11.
