Boomer Esiason: Lamar Jackson to the Jets makes 'absolutely no sense'

Former NFL quarterback and current radio host Boomer Esiason isn't a fan of the New York Jets possibly trading for Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson.

"I will go to the end of the earth to tell you that Lamar Jackson is not the player for this team, the way this team is currently constructed," Esiason said during Wednesday's edition of the WFAN "Boomer And Gio" program, per Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "No matter what anybody says, they don’t understand the dynamics of the wide receivers and the quarterbacks. That would be a major problem here." 

After the Ravens parted ways with offensive coordinator Greg Roman, some linked him with the Jets in part because Gang Green is admittedly searching for an upgrade over signal-caller Zach Wilson such as Jackson. Esiason said making such a drastic change to the offense could result in the Jets "trading (standout rookie receiver) Garrett Wilson and maybe (fellow receiver) Elijah Moore" to fit what would become a run-happy scheme. 

"It just doesn’t make any sense," Esiason continued about the Jets potentially acquiring Jackson. "No matter how popular you think he may be or how great he may be, it makes absolutely no sense." 

Esiason became the latest person to say the Atlanta Falcons are a logical landing spot for the one-time Most Valuable Player. Both Jeremy Fowler of ESPN and NFL insider Jason La Canfora suggested over the past week that the Falcons could and/or should make a move for Jackson assuming the 26-year-old in the final months of his rookie contract doesn't sign a long-term deal with Baltimore. 

Fowler and La Canfora noted that it's believed the Ravens would want to ship Jackson out of the AFC if they trade him this offseason. As for the Jets, it's been widely speculated that team owner Woody Johnson will at least kick the tires on winning any sweepstakes for Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers if Rodgers makes it known he'd play for New York in 2023.
