Brock Purdy on the verge of accomplishing something no rookie QB ever has

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy already has quite an impressive resume just seven starts into his NFL career.

And with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, the 23-year-old signal caller will accomplish something no other rookie QB ever has: lead his team to the Super Bowl.

In fact, only two quarterbacks — Kurt Warner and Tom Brady — have ever won a Super Bowl in their first year as a starter.

“That’s what NFL football is all about — going into a hostile environment like that,” Purdy told Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews after Sunday’s win. “But we’re excited, and we’re ready for it.”

Four rookie quarterbacks previously reached a conference championship — Tampa Bay’s Shaun King (1999), Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger (2004), Baltimore’s Joe Flacco (2008) and New York’s Mark Sanchez (2009) — and three of the four lost by nine or more points.

King was the only one who played in a competitive conference championship, falling to the then-St. Louis Rams 11-6.

Counting the postseason, Purdy is 7-0 as the 49ers’ starting QB. He’s completed 66.6 percent of his passes (122 of 183) for 1,644 yards, 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

He’s led San Francisco to playoff wins over the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys, becoming just the third rookie QB since 1970 to win two postseason games.
