Broncos' blues: Russell Wilson and company sing same 'sad song' in Nashville

Russell Wilson's Broncos sang the blues in Nashville after a loss to the Titans dropped them to 3-6.

"Not to beat a dead horse, but these Broncos traveled all the way to Music City to sing an old sad song we all know by our broken hearts," writes Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla.

The Broncos fell to the Titans 17-10 despite a strong start.

Denver appeared to snap their offensive woes when Russell Wilson connected with undrafted rookie wideout Jalen Virgil on a 66-yard touchdown, giving them a 10-0 lead in the second quarter.

The touchdown teased the Broncos with hope of a victory, but it was a mirage. They failed to score for the remainder of the game.

Wilson's play illustrated why the Broncos are 1-5 in their last six games. He posted a 70.1 passer rating, threw a game-sealing interception and the Titans sacked him a season-high six times.

Through nine games Wilson has registered a career-low 81.4 passer rating. The performance proves his Seattle magic evaporated in Denver.

"The biggest evaluation priority between now and season's end? Identifying ways to build around the quarterback Wilson is now, not the one the Broncos hoped he would be," wrote The Athletic's Nick Kosmider.

Finding ways to build around Wilson presents a problem. Broncos general manager George Paton emptied the cupboard, trading two first-round picks (2022 and 2023) to acquire Wilson in March.

Additionally, Wilson is supposed to be a transformative player, not one you have to compensate for. His sloppy play renders Denver with the same melancholy hymn.
