Broncos CB A.J. Bouye facing multi-game suspension for PED violation

Denver Broncos cornerback A.J. Bouye could miss the remainder of this season and potentially the start of the 2021 campaign.

ESPN's Jeff Legwold and others reported on Tuesday afternoon that Bouye is facing an unspecified multi-game suspension for an alleged violation of the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

The 29-year-old is said to be in a situation similar to those that recently impacted Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller and Houston cornerback Bradley Roby. Both received six-game bans from the NFL and said they tested positive for a forbidden substance after using a product they believed was safe per league rules.

A six-game suspension would make Bouye unavailable for the final four games of this season and the first two contests of 2021.

Bouye made the only Pro Bowl appearance of his career, to date, in 2017 while playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville traded Bouye to Denver in March, and he missed time earlier in the season due to a dislocated shoulder he suffered in the Week 1 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Across his first seven games with Denver, he accumulated 23 total tackles and six pass breakups.

Bouye is signed through 2021 and carries a cap hit of $13.5 million, according to Spotrac. He could, however, become a salary-cap casualty at the start of the next NFL year.
