Broncos' Drew Lock 'motivated' by competition with Teddy Bridgewater

NFL Network's James Palmer reported last week that the Denver Broncos' quarterback competition between 2019 draft pick Drew Lock and veteran Teddy Bridgewater could last through the end of the preseason schedule next month.

All involved have thus far publicly said only the right things about the battle, and that trend continued when Lock spoke with reporters Wednesday. Lock discussed competing with Bridgewater, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk:

"If anything, I’d say it’s motivating. Everyone talks about staying focused, controlling what you can control. My idea is just come out with high energy every single day. Focus on me, make the plays when they come to me when I’m in there, and congratulate Teddy when he makes a good play. And we’ll talk about when I make a bad play or when he makes a bad play.

"It’s just about getting better every day, staying in my lane, and helping this team get better every single day because the main goal — besides this competition — is for us to start winning games here. I think we can do that with this team that we have. And it’s just a different feeling around this building right now. And it’s really fun to be a part of."

The Broncos acquired Bridgewater via a trade with the Carolina Panthers shortly before this year's NFL Draft, which, intentionally or not, said plenty about what those running the club thought about Lock's ability to win future games on the sport's bigger stages.

According to Pro-Football-Reference, Lock holds a record of 8-10 in the NFL. Bridgewater, on the other hand, is 26-23 during his career.
