Broncos get encouraging injury update on key offensive starter

The Denver Broncos received some very positive news regarding the status of starting running back Javonte Williams.

Williams said this weekend that "the plan" is for him to be cleared for the start of training camp and that he feels like he is "ready to go" after tearing his ACL in a Week 4 game this past season, per ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

Williams made the comments this weekend at a football camp he was hosting along with teammate Pat Surtain II.

Getting Williams back would be an enormous boost to a Broncos offense that was one of the worst in the NFL during the 2022 season.

A second-round pick by the team in 2021, Williams had a great rookie season that saw him rush for over 900 yards and record 316 yards receiving. He also scored seven touchdowns.

He was off to another strong start in his sophomore season before getting injured against the Las Vegas Raiders and missing the remainder of the season.

It was just one of the many issues the Broncos had a year ago offensively. Williams' injury, combined with the regression from key offseason acquisition Russell Wilson and a head coach (Nathaniel Hackett) that was clearly in over his head resulted in a five-win season.

With a new head coach in Sean Payton and the return of Williams, the Broncos might actually have some hope for a dramatically improved offense this season. Denver has not made the playoffs in seven years and is coming off of a sixth consecutive losing season.
