Broncos' Russell Wilson avoids 'significant' hamstring injury, is day-to-day

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has apparently avoided a serious physical setback coming off Monday's prime-time loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Michael Baca) reported Tuesday afternoon that Wilson is considered day-to-day following an MRI on his hurting hamstring. That's positive news considering it was said earlier in the day there were fears Wilson was dealing with a "fairly significant" hamstring injury suffered during the fourth quarter of the overtime defeat that dropped the Broncos to 2-4.

Wilson was banged up earlier this month and required a procedure near his throwing shoulder to relieve discomfort after the Week 5 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 6. Kevin Patra of the league's website noted that Wilson completed his first 10 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers but then connected on just three-of-11 attempts for a paltry 15 yards in the second half and the overtime period.

ESPN stats show the 33-year-old will enter Week 7 ranked 23rd among eligible quarterbacks with an 83.4 passer rating, 25th with a 35.8 total QBR and 30th with a 58.6% completion percentage for the campaign. Wilson threw just five touchdowns with three interceptions across his first six games as a member of the Broncos.

Denver has lost three straight and will look to end that streak when it hosts the 4-2 New York Jets this coming Sunday.
