Broncos to start Drew Lock this week, Teddy Bridgewater next week

Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio told reporters in late July there was "no separation" in the quarterback competition involving 2019 draft pick Drew Lock and veteran Teddy Bridgewater.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Fangio reiterated that stance Tuesday and revealed that Lock will get the start for Saturday's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings because he's been with the team longer than Bridgewater.

Bridgewater, who was selected by Minnesota in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, spent four years with the Vikings and will also see action on Saturday. Both Lock and Bridgewater will play more than third-string signal-caller Brett Rypien.

Additionally, Fangio confirmed Bridgewater will start against the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 21. The assumption is that Fangio understandably will wait to see his quarterbacks in action before naming a starter for the preseason wrap-up versus the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 28.

Fangio declared in mid-May the battle between Lock and Bridgewater would "be a 50-50 proposition," and the coach is staying true to his word through the summer months.
