Broncos want to play Jaguars in London during 2022 season

Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the Jacksonville Jaguars have played a home game in London every NFL season since 2013 minus the 2020 campaign when all international contests were scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That trend will continue through at least the 2024 season, and it appears Jacksonville may already have an opponent for its next contest across the figurative pond.

According to Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post, Denver Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis confirmed at the league's annual meetings on Monday he's petitioned for his club to face the Jaguars in London, presumably at Wembley Stadium.

"We’ll see if that becomes a possibility," Ellis explained. "I’ve expressed interest on behalf of the team. Coach (Nathaniel) Hackett is bullish on it. (General manager) George (Paton) is bullish on it. (Quarterback) Russell Wilson is bullish on it. But it’s also good for the team. It brings the team together for a period of time that I consider it a mini-training camp. Everybody that has gone over there has liked it."

The Broncos were scheduled to face the Atlanta Falcons in London during the 2020 season but had those plans wiped out because of the pandemic. Ellis added that Denver will eventually "host" a team for a game held in Mexico.

"Someday, we would like to play down there, sooner rather than later," he remarked.

In total, the NFL is planning to hold three games in London, one in Munich and one in Mexico City during the 2022 season. Matchups for those encounters will be announced as part of the full schedule release later this spring.
