Brother of former Pro Bowler Aqib Talib wanted in shooting death of youth football coach

Yaqub Salik Talib, the brother of former star NFL cornerback Aqib Talib, has been identified by police as a suspect in the shooting death of a coach at a youth football game in Texas. The shooting occurred Saturday night according to the Lancaster Police Department.

"Yaqub Talib was not in custody as of late Sunday and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The Associated Press sent a message seeking updated information Monday on the search for him," a report from ESPN and the Associated Press reads. "Dallas TV station WFAA reported that the brothers are coaches for North Dallas United Bobcats, a youth football team. Coaches with the youth team D.E.A. Dragons identified the man killed as coach Mike Hickmon, WFAA reported. Dragons president Mike Freeman said the dispute began when Hickmon went to pick up a football and someone kicked it away."

The 20th overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, Talib spent the first four-plus seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being traded to the New England Patriots in November 2012. Talib played the entire 2013 season with the Patriots -- making his first Pro Bowl -- and then signed with the Denver Broncos ahead of the 2014 campaign.

Talib went on to earn four consecutive Pro Bowl honors during his stay in Denver, while garnering a First Team All-Pro nod in 2016. He was part of a dominant Broncos defense that helped lead the squad to a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.

The 36-year-old Cleveland, Oh. native finished his playing career in 2018 and 2019 with the Los Angeles Rams. Talib registered 462 combined tackles, 125 pass defended and 35 interceptions (with 10 interceptions returned for touchdowns) over 148 career regular season games.
