Browns' Callie Brownson becomes first female position coach in NFL history

Chief of staff Callie Brownson served as the Cleveland Browns' tight ends coach for Sunday's 27-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, making her the first female position coach in NFL history.

Drew Petzing, who usually serves as Cleveland's tight ends coach, didn't travel with the Browns after his wife gave birth to the couple's first child over the weekend.

Cleveland's tight ends did pretty well with Brownson on the sideline, too, reeling in a combined four receptions for 37 yards and one touchdown.

Brownson is in her first season with the Browns after spending time as an intern with the Buffalo Bills. She also served as an offensive quality control coach at Dartmouth and began her NFL coaching career as an intern for the New York Jets.

Earlier this season, Brownson made history when Cleveland played Washington. The game featured a female coach on each sideline and a female official.

This week has been monumental for women in football and for those aspiring to be in football. On top of Brownson's accomplishments, Sarah Fuller became the first woman to play in a Power Five game when she took the field for the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. Fuller, who served as Vanderbilt's kicker, was recruited by the Commodores after COVID-19 protocols forced their kickers to quarantine.
