The Cleveland Browns' rookie minicamp isn't even over and there's already controversy brewing around Shedeur Sanders.
It was rookie Dillon Gabriel who got the priority reps over Sanders in practice today. Gabriel was the Browns' 94th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft - 50 spots ahead of Sanders, who was taken in the fifth round.
After practice, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about it.
But Stefanski was in no mood. He insisted that inquiring reports "not look into it" too much.
"Yeah I wouldn't look into it as anything..." Stefanski said. "I think you'll see the whole weekend, going through the spring. We don't pay too much attention to who is going first."
Fans in the comments are already salivating over how Sanders could cause things to blow up within the Browns:
"Browns will rue the day they drafted sanders as an ill-fated favor to his dad. If they don’t play him EVERY SINGLE SNAP, even in practice, they will be confronted, questioned, and called out... There will be no peace moving forward until he’s off the team and someone else’s problem," one user remarked.
"He should have just said alphabetical order and called it a day," another joked.
"And it has begun. We only wanna see sheduer lol."
"This is the type of behavior that's gonna kick Sanders out of the league lmao. Why are reporters and fans so annoying? Just let them compete, if he's better he will win the comp."
The good news for Shedeur Sanders is that the Browns quarterback situation is in so much flux right now that all he has to do is play like a bonafide NFL starter and he could make a serious challenge for the job.
If Sanders can't start for the Browns, chances are there aren't any NFL teams he can start for as a rookie.
But that doesn't make the situation any less silly. The fact of the matter is that Gabriel was a higher draft pick.
A higher draft pick means a higher investment, and a higher investment means more effort will go in to ensuring the investment pays off.
