Browns could play RBs Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt together vs. Ravens

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski have both insisted banged-up quarterback Baker Mayfield will put together his best performances of the season coming off the bye and over the final five games of the campaign as the 6-6 Browns pursue a playoff berth.

Numbers don't lie, however, and they show a stagnant Cleveland offense averaged a paltry 10 points over the last three contests. It appears, however, that Mayfield might get some extra help starting with this coming Sunday's home matchup against the first-place Baltimore Ravens (8-4).

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Stefanski admitted to reporters Monday he's considering playing star running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt together and at the same time.

"Those are all things we talk about," Stefanski explained about this potential tactic. "We want to make sure whatever we do is sound in thinking and sound schematically, those type of things. Those are two great players. We’ve got to make sure that they’re involved so that we can be productive in the run game and in the pass game."

Cleveland's offense is built around its rushing attack, but the Browns managed only 40 yards on the ground against Baltimore back on Nov. 28, per ESPN stats. Mayfield, meanwhile, threw for 247 yards but completed only 18-of-37 passes (48.7%) with one touchdown and a lost fumble in that defeat, Cleveland's second loss in three games.

Making life easier for Mayfield this month is a must if the Browns are to right the figurative ship beginning with Sunday's pivotal showdown on the shoreline of Lake Erie.
