Browns' Deshaun Watson cited for speeding months after trade from Texans

It appears quarterback Deshaun Watson hasn't completely avoided trouble since he was traded by the Houston Texans to the Cleveland Browns in March.

TMZ Sports and Cleveland's Fox 8 have reported that Watson was caught by the Ohio State Highway Patrol driving 97 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone on the Ohio Turnpike back on June 11. The 27-year-old explained at the time he was traveling from Detroit, and his vehicle reportedly included passengers and a small dog.

Watson's interaction with the police officer was said to be polite and cordial. The signal-caller was ultimately issued a citation and later paid a $185 fine. According to court records, the matter was closed, for good, on July 6.

Watson is serving an 11-game suspension related to allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions that were handed down well after the traffic incident. Two grand juries previously declined to indict him regarding the sexual misconduct accusations, and his legal team settled 23 of 24 civil lawsuits before it was learned last week that he is now facing a new lawsuit of a similar nature.

NFL chief spokesperson Brian McCarthy said ahead of this past weekend the league "will monitor developments in the newly-filed litigation," but Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio noted that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters Tuesday that Watson has thus far complied with the terms for his eventual reinstatement.

Watson is on track to make his Cleveland regular-season debut at none other than the Texans in Week 13 on Dec. 4. The 2-4 Browns will play at the 3-3 Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.
