Browns hire former Bills OC Ken Dorsey for the same role

Roughly two months after losing his job as offensive coordinator with the Buffalo Bills, Ken Dorsey has a new home.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cleveland Browns are hiring Dorsey as the team's new play-caller.

A coaching veteran, Dorsey spent the last five seasons with the Bills, first as quarterbacks coach before taking over as OC in 2022.

However, after Buffalo entered 2023 with Super Bowl aspirations, they got off to a sluggish 5-5 start, and Dorsey was the scapegoat, fired in November.

In the interim, Joe Brady took over Dorsey's role before being awarded the full-time gig on Sunday. Yet, while the Bills won more after the change, their offense got slightly worse under Brady statistically, averaging 0.071 EPA per play from Week 11 through 18, down from 0.117 over 10 weeks with Dorsey as OC.

Over parts of two seasons as OC in Buffalo, Dorsey presided over offenses that ranked second and sixth in the NFL in points scored, but the Bills felt a change was necessary.

Dorsey's addition in Cleveland gives the Browns an embarrassment of riches when it comes to having coaches with play calling experience. On top of Dorsey, they have pass game coordinator and receivers coach Chad O'Shea, tight ends coach Tommy Rees and head coach Kevin Stefanski.

With so much offensive brainpower on board, seeing what the group can put together should be interesting, especially after the unit improved from 18th in the NFL in 2022 to 10th this season.

The 42-year-old also has a connection to the franchise. Dorsey spent four seasons in the NFL as a quarterback, his final two in Cleveland with the Browns. He played in five games, going 0-3 as a starter.
