Points were tough to come by in the Cleveland Browns 19-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
All but one of the scores came off the foot of kicker Dustin Hopkins. Hopkins converted four field goals against the 49ers in the win and with that, the NFL has recognized him.
Hopkins is the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 6. Three of his kicks came from at least 40 yards capped off by a boot from 50 yards.
To defeat the 49ers, Hopkins nailed a 29-yard field goal that proved to be the game-winner. It is the fourth player of the week award for Hopkins and his first in Cleveland.
Interestingly enough, Hopkins had a really good game with former Browns kicker Phil Dawson in attendance. Dawson was a fan favorite for his time with the Browns in the 2000s.
Cutting Cade York to sign Hopkins has paid off for the Browns. He’s made 12-of-his-14 kicks with a make of 55 yards which is his longest since 2018.
For the first time in a couple of years, there is no nervousness at kicker. But Mother Nature is likely around the corner with a mix of weather, so that is when things will get interesting.
A nice award for Hopkins who is kicking the ball at a good clip right now.
