Browns LT Jedrick Wills Jr. 'day-to-day' with ankle injury

Fans of the Cleveland Browns could not be blamed for fearing the worst as they watched starting left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. get carted off the field shortly after he suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday's loss at the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, Wills avoided a serious and season-ending setback.

According to Anthony Poisal of the Browns website, Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday that Wills is considered "day-to-day" due to the ankle issue ahead of this coming Sunday's home opener versus the Houston Texans.

"We'll see how he progresses throughout the week," Stefanski explained.

Chris Hubbard performed well replacing the injured Wills in Kansas City and would be in line to start in Week 2 if Wills is unable to play.

"I thought Hub had some good moments," Stefanski added. "We've called on him in the past to play right tackle, and in this case it was left tackle. That's the nature of being the sixth-man. He performed admirably. If Jed were not to be able to go, he would be the guy that would be in there."

ESPN gave Cleveland's offensive line the highest pass block win rate for Week 1 ahead of Monday night, but the Browns were held to just seven points in the second half as the Chiefs rallied from behind to earn a 33-29 win.

Also on Monday, Stefanski said it's a "possibility" star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will make his season debut against Houston as he works to return from the torn ACL he suffered last October. Beckham was inactive in Kansas City.
