Browns planning for Deshaun Watson press conference

Even though star quarterback Deshaun Watson avoided facing criminal charges related to the much-publicized allegations of sexual assault and misconduct he's faced, Tim Bielik of Cleveland.com noted last Wednesday that more than half of Cleveland Browns fans who responded to a survey said they did not want the team to acquire Watson. Such potential backlash did not, however, prevent the Browns from obtaining the three-time Pro Bowl selection via a blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans.

After that deal became official, Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski all essentially defended trading for a signal-caller still facing 22 civil lawsuits via statements released on Sunday morning. Those words understandably won't be enough for media members and fans questioning why the Browns would, per Peter King of "Football Morning in America," sell "their souls" to land Watson.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk and others, the Browns have confirmed a press conference addressing the controversial trade "will happen at some point." It's unclear when that event will occur or who representing the team will attend, but it's assumed Watson and also Browns executives will face difficult questions at the event.

"We have done extensive investigative, legal and reference work over the past several months to provide us with the appropriate information needed to make an informed decision about pursuing him and moving forward with him as our quarterback," Berry said of trading for Watson in the previously mentioned statement. Berry may need to offer more information on that "work" to avoid the upcoming press conference turning ugly in a hurry.
