Browns players sent home due to positive COVID-19 test

As Daryl Ruiter explained for Cleveland sports radio station 92.3 The Fan, a majority of Cleveland Browns veteran players are skipping at least the start of organized team activities this week after Browns center and NFL Players Association president JC Tretter spoke out against OTAs on multiple occasions this offseason.

Some Browns players looking to complete in-person work ahead of Memorial Day will now have to make other plans.

Lindsay Jones of The Athletic was first to report a Browns player tested positive for COVID-19 before on-field work began Tuesday. As a result, exposed players not fully vaccinated were sent home and forced to enter mandatory quarantines per an agreement between the NFL and NFLPA.

Jones added some of the players deemed high-risk close contacts were between their first and second vaccine doses.

The NFL is considering loosening certain COVID-19 health and safety protocols for teams able to reach or exceed an 85% threshold of fully vaccinated players. It's unknown if the Browns are close to hitting that mark.
