Browns QB Baker Mayfield has surgery on shoulder

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is undergoing surgery on Wednesday to repair his injured left shoulder, according to multiple reports.

Anaheim Ducks orthopedic surgeon Orr Limpisvasti is performing this surgery.

Mayfield, 26, tore the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder during Week 2's 31-21 win over the Houston Texans but played through the injury before re-injuring it in Week 6's 37-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

He missed three non-consecutive games through the rest of the season and played with a shoulder harness. Cleveland sat him in the season finale in favor of Case Keenum.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Wednesday the surgery carries a four-month recovering window and that Mayfield should be ready for training camp next season. The Browns have already expressed that Mayfield will be their starting QB for 2022.

In 2021, the fourth-year quarterback completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 3,010 yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
