Browns QB Baker Mayfield misses practice, status for Steelers game uncertain

This past Friday, Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was unable to speak with any certainty about the status of injured quarterback Baker Mayfield, who is dealing with a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder and also a fractured bone at the top of the humerus.

That situation hasn't changed entering the new week.

Per Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, Mayfield was not on the practice field Monday ahead of this coming Sunday's divisional showdown with a Pittsburgh Steelers side that is coming off its bye week. Stefanski didn't confirm if Mayfield will try to practice Wednesday.

Multiple reports last week made it clear Mayfield wants to return to the lineup as soon as possible, ideally for the Pittsburgh game on Halloween afternoon. Backup Case Keenum started last Thursday's 17-14 win over the Denver Broncos and completed 21-of-33 passes for 199 yards, a touchdown, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 90.3, leading some to believe that he is the club's best option at the position with Mayfield hurting.

It's assumed Mayfield will require surgery at some point, but the plan, for now, is that he will play through the pain once he's cleared to get back to work.
