Running back Cam Akers’ time with the Los Angeles Rams looks to be coming to an end. This isn’t the first time that the two parties seemingly haven’t been on the same page, but it feels like a move will actually transpire at some point.

Cam Akers was a healthy scratch in Week 2 after being a prominent part of the game plan in Week 1. He revealed on social media it was because the team was looking to trade him and two teams have emerged as potential trade suitors.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, several teams have reached out to the Rams about making a deal. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders and Cleveland Browns were all mentioned by Schultz.

He added that there is a chance that Cam Akers is released because of salary reasons. But, the Rams are actively shopping and he has more than likely played his final game with the franchise.

Cam Akers finished the 2022 season on a high note, recording 100+ rushing yards in each of the last three games, scoring three touchdowns. That led to a lot of optimism this offseason that he would be a centerpiece of the offense, but that has quickly gone awry.

Kyren Williams was the lead back in Week 1 and expected passing down back as well. In Week 2 he had another big game without Cam Akers in the lineup, essentially sealing his fate. All of the teams that Schultz mentioned would have a role for the Florida State product right away.

The Ravens and Browns each saw their starter go down to season-ending injuries. J.K. Dobbins suffered an Achilles injury in Week 1 and Nick Chubb had a gruseome knee injury occur in Week 2.

The Raiders and Buccaneers would be less than ideal landing spots. Las Vegas has Josh Jacobs entrenched as their lead back, monopalizing touches. Tampa Bay is leaning on Rachaad White with highly touted undrafted free agent Sean Tucker behind him.

In the season opener, Cam Akers handled the ball for 22 carries, producing a measly 29 yards with one touchdown. He was not targeted in the passing game.
