Browns revolving door of quarterbacks set to add 36th name

With quarterback Deshaun Watson set to miss another game on Sunday, the Cleveland Browns are going to add another name to what is currently one of the most infamous lists in professional sports.

Starting quarterback for the Browns.

When P.J. Walker gets the call on Sunday, he will be the 36th different quarterback to start for the franchise since it returned to the NFL at the start of the 1999 season.

It is a staggering number that continues to grow by multiple names seemingly every year.

For those of you scoring at home, 36 starting quarterbacks over a 24-year stretch averages out to 1.5 quarterbacks per season.

Walker will already be the third different starting quarterback for the Browns this season, joining Watson and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Thompson-Robinson started the Browns' last game two weeks ago and was intercepted three times in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The overall list is a monster and includes first-round busts (Brandon Weeden, Johnny Manziel, Brady Quinn), late-round picks that you probably forget about, stop-gap veterans, a rare brief spurt of success from Kelly Holcomb and a couple of hopeful franchise players in Baker Mayfield and now Watson.

The Browns gave up three first-round draft picks and paid Watson $250 million in guarantees to hopefully be their franchise quarterback, but so far, his tenure with the Browns has been marred by the suspension that kept him out of 11 games a year ago, bad play when he has been on the field and now a shoulder injury that could sideline him for several more weeks

That revolving door of quarterbacks is a big reason why the Browns have appeared in the playoffs just two times since their return to the league, winning only a single playoff game in that time.
