The Cleveland Browns sign a backup quarterback

The Cleveland Browns appear set at the starting quarterback position until Deshaun Watson hits the free-agency market in 2027, but the Browns will need to sign other backups at the position in case anything happens to the $46 million/year signal-caller. To do so, Cleveland signed a backup to their roster Monday.

According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Browns are set to sign quarterback Josh Dobbs to a one-year contract. The deal is worth $2 million guaranteed.

Dobbs is a former 2017 fourth-round selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dobbs made his first NFL start for the Tennessee Titans during the 2022 season. With the AFC South division on the line, Dobbs was named the Week 18 starter against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the Titans didn’t trust rookie quarterback Malik Willis for the crucial game.

Dobbs would finish the game going 20-of-29 passing for 179 yards, one touchdown pass and one interception in a conservatively called offensive game. He also added 32 yards on the ground. The Titans had a fourth-quarter lead until a Dobbs fumble was returned for a defensive touchdown. The team went out on downs the next series and lost the game 20-16.
