Browns work out veteran RB after latest injury

The Browns are looking to add another running back to the mix after Jerome Ford, who went down with a hamstring injury, is expected to be out several weeks and is "doubtful" for the season opener.

Aaron Wilson reports that Cleveland is working out veteran RB Jordan Wilkins, a fifth-round pick in 2018. He has rushed for 1,009 yards and four touchdowns in his career.

The Browns were excited for Ford to take over the RB2 role after parting ways with RB Kareem Hunt this offseason but now the team must find a replacement in his absence.

Wilkins hasn't found a consistent role in the league as he has struggled to stay healthy the past two years. But the 29-year-old would be set up for success running behind Cleveland's stout offensive line.

The Browns may decide to sign Wilkins, but third-year running back Demetric Felton Jr. has a case to be the fill-in for the time being.

Felton Jr. played well in the Browns 21-16 win over the Jets in the Hall of Fame Game last week, rushing for 46 yards and a touchdown. He will get another opportunity to make his case for the RB2 job on Friday when Cleveland hosts the Commanders.

Either way, the Browns should add to their running back room just in case it gets hit with more injuries with preseason still in its early stages.

Top running backs Dalvin Cook and Ezekiel Elliott are still available in free agency, but Wilkins would be a much cheaper option.
