Brutal week for football fans in Seattle continues

It's been a rough week for football fans in the Emerald City.

Despite winning three of their final four games of the regular season, including a victory in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks just barely missed out on qualifying for the playoffs.

With only one day of recovery, followers of both the Seahawks and University of Washington football team prepared to watch the Huskies in the national championship game. They witnessed Washington fall in blowout fashion to the University of Michigan, 34-13.

Wednesday saw the most shocking news of the week when it was reported that legendary Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll wouldn't be returning to his post in 2024. Instead, the Super Bowl XLVIII champion will be serving as an advisor to the club after a 14-year run on the sidelines.

The 72-year-old had said only days earlier that he intended to stay on as Seattle's head coach, but following the move, he said Friday that he "can't imagine that there's a place" other than with the Seahawks where he could coach. Carroll added that he's "not holding his breath" on a return to coaching.

Wednesday's news on Carroll broke just hours before it was first reported that University of Alabama icon Nick Saban was retiring from his job as the Crimson Tide's head coach.

Though a deal hasn't officially been announced, it was reported Friday afternoon that Kalen DeBoer had "informed" program officials that he was leaving the Huskies to take the gig at Alabama. DeBoer was with Washington for just two seasons, earning back-to-back Pac-12 Coach of the Year awards and leading the team to a 25-3 record.
