The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by general manager Jason Licht, have orchestrated what could be considered one of their most successful free agency periods since Tom Brady’s arrival in Tampa Bay. Despite doubts surrounding their ability to retain key players, the Bucs managed to secure important signings, including quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Mike Evans.

Mayfield and Evans, who formed a formidable partnership during the 2023 season, have demonstrated promising chemistry on the field.

With both players committing to several more seasons with the team, Buccaneers fans can anticipate further growth and success from this dynamic duo.

Mike Evans, no stranger to playing alongside talented quarterbacks, draws parallels between Mayfield and his former college teammate Johnny Manziel.

“Man, Baker, man, he surprised me a lot. With not his game, I knew he was a really good player, just how he is as a leader and a teammate. He really surprised me a lot. He’s similar to Johnny, his playing style. I mean, really similar. So it was easy to adjust to play with him. Shorter quarterback. Great athlete. Throws like a baseball player, like really tight spiral. Really good arm. Improvise, can do all those things. Super tough. So I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this year.”

Reflecting on his time at Texas A&M, Evans highlights similarities in their confidence, accolades (including Heisman Trophies), and early draft selections, despite Manziel’s departure from the league and Mayfield’s resurgence after a period of uncertainty.

If Mayfield and Evans can replicate their 2023 performance, there’s immense potential for continued success, with Evans poised to extend his streak of 1,000 receiving yards for an impressive 11th consecutive season.

It will be interesting to see what the 2024 NFL season has in store for the Buccaneers. With Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans leading the way, another playoff appearance could very well be in the cards.
