Buccaneers QB Tom Brady hints at return of key player

Will the Buccaneers' porous offensive line get relief soon?

Former Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen has not played this season because of a knee injury, but Tom Brady hinted he might be available for the team's struggling offense in the postseason.

On his "Let's Go!" podcast Monday, the Tampa Bay QB said Jensen's return was "to be determined."

"I know he's been very vigilant with his rehab," Brady said. "I know he's a lot closer. I know he's itching to be out there. I try to encourage him every day."

Jensen signed a three-year, $39 million contract extension ahead of the 2022 season, but suffered the knee injury during training camp. He hasn't played since.

Brady said Jensen's return could provide "a big boost" for the banged-up line.

On Sunday against the Cardinals, Tampa Bay lost left tackle Josh Wells to a torn patellar tendon, and All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs re-aggravated an ankle injury. Meanwhile, left tackle Donovan Smith was sidelined with a foot injury.

Jensen's absence has been noticeable all season. The Bucs O-line has struggled in the running game and hasn't protected Brady well on passing plays.

In 2022, the Bucs rank last in rushing yards with 1,155 and 28th in total offensive touchdowns with 26. A year ago, they tied for the league lead with 63 offensive TDs.

The offensive woes have served as fodder for fans, media and retired tight end Rob Gronkowski, who said his former team needs "to be in no-huddle more often."

With a win Sunday against Carolina (6-9), the Bucs (7-8) can clinch the NFC South title.
