Buccaneers QB Tom Brady won't practice Wednesdays but will be at team facility

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady once again had his name in headlines ahead of Sunday's 20-10 win at the New Orleans Saints that improved the Buccaneers to 2-0 on the season when NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the 45-year-old will take every Wednesday off from practice. The implication at the time was that Brady would receive a personal day each week and not be in the building on any Wednesday moving forward.

It appears that isn't the case.

Per the Joe Bucs Fan website and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles clarified on Monday that Brady will take each Wednesday off from practice as a scheduled maintenance day but will be at the club's facility for meetings and other team-related happenings.

"It’s not just [Brady]," Bowles said about giving some players extra rest during midweeks. "We have designated days off after games." Wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans were specifically named among Tampa Bay stars who won't participate in every practice moving forward.

A visibly frustrated Brady threw one of the team's sideline tablets during the victory in New Orleans but did enough to guide the visitors to a second straight win. He ultimately completed 18-of-34 passes for 190 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.

According to ESPN stats, Brady began Monday 21st among eligible quarterbacks with an 82.8 passer rating and 23rd with a 38.7 total QBR this season.

Brady has been the subject of numerous rumors and reports claiming that Gisele Bündchen, his wife, is unhappy he didn't retire for good following the 2021 season and instead returned to the Buccaneers in March for at least one more campaign. Some understandably wondered if his upcoming personal days were related to supposed off-the-field issues, but Bowles indicated the future Hall of Famer will merely be resting his body throughout the grueling season.
