Tom Brady has another weapon with the latest Buccaneers signing
Tom Brady was unhappy with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense in Week 2. Brady threw multiple tantrums during the team’s win over the New Orleans Saints. Brady finished with 190 yards passing and one touchdown but still feels he needed better wide receiver play.
The Buccaneers’ wide receivers are not as talented as they were in previous seasons when they made deep playoff runs. Their best wide receiver, Mike Evans, will be suspended against the Packers in Week 3. Wide receiver Chris Godwin has been dealing with a hamstring injury. The Buccaneers needed help at the position before getting deeper in to their regular season.
Per Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Buccaneers are getting that help on Tuesday. The Buccaneers are signing 2020 second-team All-Pro wide receiver Cole Beasley to the practice squad. It’s assumed Beasley will be elevated from the practice squad quickly.
Beasley is a good addition for the Buccaneers
The Buccaneers’ signing means their wide receiver roster is much better than it was 24 hours ago. The Packers will still catch a break with Evans’ suspension, but Beasley will be a player the defense will need to key into. Beasley had a phenomenal year when he made All-Pro in the 2020 season with 967 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He fell off a little last season, only scoring one touchdown but still gained 693 receiving yards.
Beasley was a name that fans in Green Bay might have been hoping the team would sign. The Packers will potentially have a shorter list of wide receivers to bring in to help quarterback Aaron Rodgers this season. Beasley would have been a significant help to the Packers.
Beasley was a stable role player with the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. The Packers’ defense will now need to look at the tape to come up with ways to defend him. If Brady has confidence in Beasley during practice this week, he could have a substantial role against the Packers.
