Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs isn’t going to have to prepare to play two positions.

As reported by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, tackle Tristan Wirfs will be making the move from right tackle to left tackle. Wirfs played on the right side the last three seasons.

The Buccaneers had a chance to draft Oklahoma’s Anton Harrison with the 19th pick, but decided on Pittsburgh defensive tackle Calijah Kancey.

“It just sometimes doesn’t go the way you want,” Bucs’ V.P. of player personnel John Spytek stated. “We all would’ve loved to add tackles, but I don’t want to lose enough games every year to be up there where those tackles typically go. We’ve got guys we feel good with. We’ve got guys who we know can compete.”

The Buccaneers recently picked up Wirfs’ fifth-year option keeping him under contract through the 2024 NFL season.

Wirfs now prepares for the change, one he faced heading into his draft season.

“It just feels awkward at first but once you settle in it feels fine,” Wirfs stated. “It kinda feels like wiping your butt with your other hand, it just feels a little awkward at first, but you get used to it.”

This move appears to points to second year lineman Luke Goedeke taking over the right tackle position. Both players have roughly four months to get used to their new positions.
