The Bucs have signed defensive tackle C.J. Brewer to their practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. Brewer is no stranger to Tampa as he spent the first 10 weeks of the regular season on the Bucs’ practice squad.

Playing his college football at Coastal Carolina, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Bills in 2022. During that season he was called up for games twice, recording two tackles.

Brewer then went to the Bucs in 2023 where he was on the practice squad, but was not elevated for any of their games.

Bucs Add To Defensive Line

With Tampa Bay placing defensive tackle Mike Green on injured reserve because of a calf injury, this left some room for Tampa Bay to shuffle the deck. They called up Pat O’Connor from the practice squad to re-join the 53-man roster, where he should be solidified for now.

O’Connor has frequently moved up and down from the practice squad to the main roster this season.

Keeping O’Connor on the active roster opened up a spot on the practice squad. Adding Brewer keeps two defensive linemen on the practice squad along with Deadrin Senat, who’s played in one game this season.

Considering the amount that the team likes to rotate their defensive linemen, there’s always the possibility that Brewer could get called up for a game depending on the situation.

Tampa Bay typically has their rotation of Vita Vea, Calijah Kancey and Logan Hall starting with fellow nose tackles and defensive tackles Greg Gaines, Will Gholston receiving some playing time. Players such as O’Connor and Greene before he was injured would get in occasionally.
