Buffalo Bills quarterback Matt Barkley Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills placed a quarterback on injured reserve during Tuesday’s busy day. The Bills announced several roster moves as they completed their 53-man roster trim before the 4 p.m. deadline.

The Bills were able to declare the winner out of camp for the QB2 position to back up star quarterback Josh Allen. That job belongs to Kyle Allen after an injury during the preseason.

According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Bills are placing Matt Barkley on injured reserve.

Barkley is battling an elbow injury. He has been with the Bills since the 2022 season.

The Bills will trust 27-year-old Kyle Allen to back up Josh Allen until Barkley can return. Kyle has started 19 games in his five-year NFL career. He’s thrown for over 4,700 yards and has 26 touchdown passes to 21 interceptions during that span.

The Bills' backup situation for Allen is concerning ahead of the 2023 regular season. The Bills have been mentioned as a likely team to trade for a quarterback this season.
