The Chicago Bears are on break from practice until training camp late next month, but that doesn't mean everyone is taking a break from football.
Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams will be continuing to hone his craft during the break while working with two other young and promising NFL quarterbacks.
According to Ben Devine , Williams will be training during the break with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy per his personal coach.
This will be a great opportunity for Williams to continue putting in the work ahead of training camp and we've already seen him join up with other NFL stars to work out multiple times during this offseason.
Following the final day of mandatory minicamp last week while addressing the media, Williams claimed that he's not trying to come into the league acting like a 16 year veteran and wants to work his tail off to achieve the goals he's set for himself. Seeing Williams take the initiative to work out with Richardson and Purdy during the break shows that he's being serious when he says that.
The upcoming workout will also give Williams a chance to work with and learn from two very different style quarterbacks who have had two totally different experiences in the NFL so far. Richardson had a short lived, but exciting, rookie season that was derailed due to a shoulder injury. Purdy, the former Mr. Irrelevant, has become the opposite and is coming off a Super Bowl berth from last season.
Williams can learn a lot experience wise from the two quarterbacks that he hasn't been able to learn thus far from his current quarterback room comprised of second-year Tyson Bagent, veteran backup Brett Rypien, and UDFA rookie Austin Reed.
"Being the Bears QB is obviously new for me," Williams explained last week. "Them being graceful and encouraging has been huge for me, that's probably been the biggest thing for me. Talking to people like Brett and Tyson, who've been with all the other QBs, that's been the biggest thing."
Williams won't be able to work on his chemistry with his usual targets or be able to continue getting better with his cadence, which he noted was a struggle during minicamp, but he will be able to continue building his footwork and various other skills during the training session. It will even help keep his routine during the break.
"I have a good positive attitude because I'm leading not just 10 other guys but the team," Williams added. "Just finding a routine and having the guys around me to help encourage."
As for the other secret link between these three quarterbacks, the Bears will be facing off against both Richardson and Purdy during the 2024 regular season. Maybe Williams can get some key intel to relay back to his defense in Chicago ahead of those two matchups.
