Cam Akers’ situation with the Los Angeles Rams has been very peculiar as within a matter of months, he went from the team’s starting running back and future at the position to away from the team altogether as they tried to trade him.

Akers is believed to have a philosophical difference of opinion from the Rams’ coaching staff when it comes to the running game. As a result, he has not suited up for practices or games the last two weeks.

The Rams tried to trade him at the deadline but found no takers so he remains on the roster. Now that the deadline has passed, Akers has returned to the Rams and after a conversation with Sean McVay, it appears he will be integrated back into the team and play again moving forward.

Akers finally spoke on the situation for the first time after Thursday’s practice, playing coy about what actually happened but saying he is happy to be back with the Rams, via Cameron DaSilva of USA Today:

“Y’all wanna know. I wanna know the same thing. I don’t know what happened,” he told reporters Thursday. “I was prepared because I had to be. I don’t know where it came from or how it happened, but it don’t matter at this point. I’m here, I’m in-house, I’m back with the team so I’m happy.”

Akers also stated that he never asked the Rams to be traded:

“I never asked to not be part of the team,” he said. “I never asked to not play. I never asked to not practice.”

This is a very weird situation as we do not know full details of what happened and likely never will. With how badly the Rams’ running back has been struggling though, they can use Akers right now as he is the most talented back on the roster.

It will be interesting to see how things play out moving forward, but the one thing they say is that winning cures all so if Akers returns and helps contribute to some Rams wins then all will likely be forgotten.
